How did this year fly by so quickly? I can’t believe it’s nearly June… JUNE!!
Well we tripped out to ‘cation house again for some of the weekend – where we saw a car show and met the neighbor’s dog Kumi. The sun poked its head out for a bit so that the kids could hone their kayak rowing skills, and then we needed to get back to the city for a busy week of E&Z’s dad working days and nights. If the blog goes a little radio silent for a bit, we will be back soon after the crazy work spell is over! Meanwhile some shots from our Instagram feed:

I feel like we’ve been watching this giant ice cube melt for MONTHS. Finally the water is flowing and the dads even jumped into the freezing water. We had a weekend of on and off rain… but when it was sunny it was great to pull the canoes out.
Now if only we could get those docks back out into the lake.

I haven’t seen much of the ocean this summer, but the kids have been getting their fill of the lake. I had no idea that there was a Water Sport weekend here in the month of August – it was such fun. A slip and slide, cannon ball diving contests, sand castle building, and scavenger hunts for coins that you later turn in for prizes. And my favorite part: lakeside dinners.

For the first time ever we all slept in a tent together. On the hard ground. Under the stars. We woke up to the sound of water babbling just by our campsite – the kids can play in nature forever. We banned ipads and electronics, and the older kids discovered they liked to find low hanging branches where they’d create woodland shelters. Our campground at Rip Van Winkle in Saugerties, NY has a heated pool and hay rides at 4 pm on Saturdays to keep kids further entertained. It was a great way to start summer!

While we still haven’t had a sit-down tea party here (yet), we did get to stop in on Alice’s Tea Cup on the upper west side. It was too hot outside to enjoy hot tea but Zoe loved the sweet flower shaped sugar cookies (and all the princess dresses)! Later she stole my phone in Central Park to take pictures of her feet, and then met a friend in the fountain at the Time Warner building.

I am back to work and somewhat crazed … and for a first time in awhile I find myself lagging on doing some blog posts. This is one that I’ve been meaning to post – before the leaves turn color and this summery set of photos looks dated and obsolete. For Ezra’s birthday we often ask his grandparents to give him an ‘experience’ (since NYC apartments can barely fit important things, let alone an excess of toys from well meaning relatives.) For Ezra’s birthday his grandparents gave him a late summer gift – and took him to rent a remote controlled sail boat at Central Park. I’ve always wanted to do this with him; a peaceful park activity that taught him ‘wind power’ and reminded us of a fun scene in the Stuart Little movie (where Stuart races a boat in the same location.)
The weather here is breezy and perfect – we hope it is where you are too! Have a good weekend.
