On the A, E and C line at 14th Street in Manhattan one can find these adorable sculptural ‘critters’ all over the platform. Ezra adores them – see more about them by clicking here.

This long Columbus Day weekend we had a fun time showing cousins Tali and Jake around town… starting with Times Square and the giant Toys R Us with ferris wheel inside. And of course the subway rides are always entertaining.
How was your weekend?

Our cousins came around and we wanted to show them the Staten Island Children’s Museum – but the day just got away from us. The weather was beautiful and the kids preferred to play in a giant sand box area in Brooklyn instead. By the time we got to Staten Island Ferry we were side tracked again by an outdoor acrobatic performance, and then the ferry trip itself became our destination. When we got to Staten Island we checked out the 9-11 Postcards sculpture/memorial to 9-11 victims (on St. George Esplanade) before getting back on the ferry and heading home to dinner. We even got a glimpse of Lady Liberty on the ferry ride back, and showed our ‘waving game’ to Stella while on the train!
(It’s worth noting that in one day we managed to be in 4 out of 5 boroughs of NYC, and used all modes of transportation except a taxi! What an accomplishment for little travelers.. )

Every year we like to find the MTA’s vintage trains riding the tracks with all the others. They pull the cars (from the 1930s and 1940s) out of this museum that we visited this past summer, and take them for a spin on the tracks every Sunday in December. When we are really lucky, we find a pack of people who show up dressed up in clothing from the same era. All aboard!
