Remember when Ezra got an award from his school? Coming right up behind him is Zoe – getting an award for being a ‘Good Citizen’ last night. We couldn’t be prouder. I love how creative and independent this one has been lately – while I was gathering cardboard to make a Purim Carnival Cutout board, she was sneaking away with her own piece and created her own ‘Rapunzel princess disguise’ (and then had to face time the grandparents and trick them of course!)

Ezra has been learning all about African culture at school through a program called City Lore. He had a performance on Monday and I was so pleased with how well he danced! At one point his whole group got a bit stuck and forgot their moves and there was Ezra – jamming on his own and basically doing a solo for a few minutes! I’m so proud.

On Zoe’s last day of school she had to wear all yellow for her performance of the ‘Little Duck’ song. She practiced this religiously for weeks and even added her own musical pauses in-between the lyrics (which always cracked me up). In the end she and her friends put on a great show … you can see by the sea of parents with cameras that this was well documented ! Now I just have to get the video version out of Z’s dad’s iPhone and post it for you all to see..

I am posting tonight and tomorrow morning in-between a flurry of graduations this week. Ezra has a graduation ceremony and show on Friday, and Zoe’s was earlier this week. When did this girl get so big? With her own birthday and graduation parties to go to .. I barely recognize this social little bunny –

As I remember E sort of learned how to walk by holding the edge of the ferry’s indoor seating benches, and walking back and forth from Manhattan to Staten Island. That was back in 2007 – now here he is about to graduate from his first school and move on to the next. All these littles are growing too fast! (thanks to mamma Kerry for the photos!)

With teachers from Colombia and India, Zoe was really struggling to pin down ONE ethnicity that may represent herself or our family. We are kind of a hodge-podge of ethnicities – but since Purim happened so recently, Zoe really wanted to make hamentashen and carry an Israeli flag around during her ‘Rainbow Song’ for International Day. She belted out her song and ate everything that the other kids brought in – bean cakes from China, Irish soda bread and empanadas to name just a few!

Suddenly Ezra has turned a corner and I see him like this more and more often – on a couch or on the floor engrossed in a chapter book! It’s pretty amazing when your child learns how to read – really knows how to read and is suddenly doing it on his own, and loving it. It saddens me a little that I will be reading TO HIM less. But I’m so proud, just the same.

Ezra got the lead part in his school play, The Grinch Who Stole Christmas! He put on at least 3 shows yesterday – 2 during the school day and then one big one for parents and friends at night. I think he may’ve forgotten some lines at the end but … I really couldn’t tell! He was so good at acting his way through whatever mistakes may’ve happened that everyone loved the show and wanted to take a photo with ‘the star’ at the end!

Ok I confess – I created this stage set last year so I’m really glad E got to act in front of it this year!

It sure was exciting back here at home in Queens where both Zoe and Ezra had holiday performances to do. What hams my kids are! I for one am terrified to get up in front of people but somehow miraculously my kids are NOT! ZOE and her class put on an adorable show with a snowflake song and Zoe was belting out the tunes fearlessly…
