Well when we finally made it to the Pittsford NY area to retrieve our kids, we found a great thing to do outdoors… check out some Civil War history. As always the kids had some interesting questions that only kids can come up with like; ‘where do the soldiers go to the bathroom?’ and ‘why don’t the kids have electronics?’ (ipads, to be specific). It was a hot day so I’m still surprised everyone was willing to wear all that clothing and hoop skirts. And I learned what a reticule is (Zoe is pointing to them in the photo below) … who knew?

and of course that means a trip to Strong Museum! Remember this amazing place? When the weather gets fussy, it’s a great place for the kids to spend HOURS playing (photos courtesy of Karen Kessler!). Hey isn’t that a scene from Sesame Street where Zoe is standing? I thought that was here in Queens!:

We haven’t done this much sledding in a long LONG time… I am still sore. First we had a piano recital where cousins Jake, Tals and Ezra played what they’ve been learning all autumn long. Then back out to make snow forts and play in Aunt Becca’s huge yard!

While away we found a weekend activity to do at Wegmans – the kids were so excited to get to stir things up on their own and make their own burritos and red quinoa corn salad. I wish we had kid-cooking classes in NYC area that were this affordable because my kids really took to it (and mom really loved eating their food)! After the class was over – Ezra kept telling me he wanted a restaurant for his birthday – HOW do we do that?
(Have a great weekend!)

Before heading back to the city we took a short hike through the woods in Mendon area – where we filled our lungs with fresh air, saw some horses on the trail and found young butterfly milk weed. We even had to wear hats – here comes the cold!

We surprised grandma and made an impromptu visit to the Rochester NY area for her birthday. The kids were thrilled to wake up to her garden again – this time blanketed in autumn leaves – and Zoe even found some lavender lingering..
