As an ‘end of the school year treat’ Ezra and his class put on a Spring Concert. I had no idea Ezra had such a lovely singing voice and I am continuously amazed by his lack of fear of a microphone and speaking in front of crowds! I hope he keeps this confidence forever.

I’ve been volunteering at Ezra’s school and have been helping a teacher who – as it turns out – just may be Ezra’s teacher next year. She’s wonderful, and finds all sorts of outside activities with the kids so that they can get involved with the community and enjoy its diversity. A few weeks ago she took them to an Indian restaurant for lunch (I loved being in her classroom in the a.m. while she played tabla music to ‘get them in the mood’.) This week she volunteered the class to clean up a vacant lot near our house. The kids had to clean out the trash and then plant perennials that will hopefully cheer up the neighborhood for years to come!

I’ve always wanted to see how a school works. It’s been so long since I’ve been in grammar school and it’s all so different now. The communication about how Ezra’s day goes is – well, we don’t get much out of Ezra and it’s hard to get the teachers to really break it all down for us. I’m not allowed to volunteer in Ezra’s class (that would be way too distracting for both he and I). I got to help a 2nd grade teacher instead — and it’s been fun AND enlightening. I feel like I get to see how the school works ‘from the inside’. Imagine how happy I was when the teacher asked me to decorate a bulletin board full of the kids’ writing projects! With a spring theme of course –
I got to use some of my cut and pasting skills from art school:
