The kids loved exploring Art Tech last week – a pop up event of kid art and technology activities that they could explore.  For some reason the ‘large ball pit’ is so much more challenging than little balls.  I love how hands-on everything was … making cars in the ‘Velocity’ learning zone, racing them down various tracks, building structures with gears and brackets, and a wall that had pivoting tiles that react to your shadow.  Tomorrow is the last day to try this out so check it out while you can!

I must confess… we still haven’t seen Lion King the Broadway Show. I know – it’s crazy. But Zoe is too small and Ezra has a fear of shows/movies that have anything to do with a parent dying (so that rules out most all Disney films for us, sadly.) Anyhow we were pleased to hear that there was going to be a pop-up exhibit “Inside The Lion King,” adjacent to Bryant Park in Midtown Manhattan from December 1-16. This show not only highlights the costume designs of Julie Taymor, but allows guests a chance to get behind the scenes of the popular stage production. The display includes almost 100 items – animal shadow puppets, masks, costumes, and props – that have been used on stage in the show or will be used in future productions. Visitors can see details (like the beading on Simba’s costume or the hand painted capes for example) that are normally not possible to see or touch from theater seats.
