Before school started – we enjoyed a leisurely pot luck and BBQ at the lake last weekend. It all ended with the kids sending paper lanterns up into the night sky – something that we tried to do at the beginning of the summer but it was just too windy. On this perfect night they finally took flight:

What a strange time of year it’s been. We went to the New Jersey Botanical Garden and had a nice little picnic on the grass, and shortly thereafter it started to snow like crazy! The nice folks at the Skylands Manor let us enter (where normally you need an appointment to go in) — they knew that Zoe thought it was a ‘princess castle’ and let us check it out. Oddly enough today it’s 80 degrees in New York… what a strange April!

We love the Bekvan stool by Ikea. We’ve painted it and had it by our kitchen counter for years now and Ezra always used it to participate in food prep and (watching us) cooking. But his sister prefers to use it as a ‘half picnic table’ as she calls it.
Layers of our paint have worn off it by now but I’d love to copy this great stool makeover.

On our way home from CT this weekend we finally got to stop at a site on the side of the road that we’ve been driving by for years. Kent Falls was not only fun to dip our feet into, but also quiet and peaceful during this off-season time of year. The kids were not up for climbing the trails and stairs around the falls, so they enjoyed standing in the falls instead. We got to see the first muddy bare toes of the season.
Zoe kept saying ‘this fun mamma!’ so I’m sure we’ll be back again – maybe next time with picnic supplies in hand.
