During these colder months we’ve had a lot of great ‘women artists’ shows to see. First we checked out the Pipilotti Rist show at the New Museum. Can you tell where Zoe got the idea to have lights on her tent during her birthday? The kids love lounging on soft furniture while watching projections on the ceiling – and the lights cascading from the ceiling! Another show that we saw was the Marilyn Minter show at Brooklyn Museum of Art. This show was a bit more risqué for kids but many pieces were lush enough to distract the kids from the more adult material. Again, large projected images on the floor or ceiling just keep my kids interested for hours!

After being inside the New Museum for a bit we tumbled out on to the street for a walk around the Ideas City Street Fair. Ezra loved the truck farm (its owners offered us some beans to grow at home) and the Mobile Public Park. The combination of gardening and trucks make his little heart sing. And we learned about new innovations being implemented in our city now — like this cool pool and the possibility of having a LowLine some day. One of our favorite new ideas is the ‘Make Anything Into a Key‘ product by Makey Makey – the kids got to play bananas as piano keys!

these bananas really play music!
