Remember when we ran into this couple getting married at The Met Museum? Well they decided to have a wedding party (years later) this past weekend at the lake. What a pretty location and amazing time we had! Our toes were in the water, lights twinkling over tables on the dock, and I got to tie a lot of nature on to vases (with twine) to decorate – and everyone made a dish to share (including that huge pile of yummy cupcakes.) What an amazing start to summer.

How did this year fly by so quickly? I can’t believe it’s nearly June… JUNE!!
Well we tripped out to ‘cation house again for some of the weekend – where we saw a car show and met the neighbor’s dog Kumi. The sun poked its head out for a bit so that the kids could hone their kayak rowing skills, and then we needed to get back to the city for a busy week of E&Z’s dad working days and nights. If the blog goes a little radio silent for a bit, we will be back soon after the crazy work spell is over! Meanwhile some shots from our Instagram feed:

Cooler weather is already creeping in here, and just a couple weekends ago we made our last treks to beaches and sand. First we camped at Cedar Point near East Hampton, then returned to our barn in Bridgehampton to seal the deal on relaxing before school and work and schedules take over. We got to quickly run into the South Fork Natural History Museum before heading home, and promise to spend more time there next summer.

We went back to gorgeous Connecticut and all the nature that it has to provide.  We hiked around the Housatonic Falls a bit – which looked so much like the moon with fresh ice water running over it.  The kids were real patient about posing for their dad’s photos – in some cases they even got into the Swiss cheese holes in the rocks for the shot!
Zoe loved posing as a wood sprite on tree stumps (her dad’s shot is better but my less professional version from my iPhone is below).  We also explored a dairy farm  where fresh chocolates are made from the cow’s milk!  Of course this got us in the mood for some ice cream that came from another dairy farm down the road.  How did Zoe fit that whole ice cream into her belly you may ask?  Well, mom helped at the end.

When Ezra is in his summer frame of mind, it’s not easy getting my boy to leave the couch and stop his reading and go off to another place for ‘camp’ daily.  This year we got him into a day camp at the school that he will be newly attending in the fall.  We figured this was a good way to get him familiar with the place and – as it turned out – he got to ‘put his mark’ on the place a bit as well by fixing up the building’s roof garden.  He had a wonderful experience with the Urban Design and Sustainability Program via Beyond Organic Design (see him sawing some wood in the blog here!)  He was so proud of the ‘Amelia’s Garden’ mural that he painted, as well as bird houses he made and we were so amazed by how much compost, gardening, and natural pest removal info he has in his head now!

Who knew there was such a lovely sprawling forest in our borough of Queens, with hiking trails and everything?

Spring seems to be right around the corner… milder temps, and nature blooming.
