Even though the temps were warm, we could do a few wintery NYC things like ice skating in Bryant Park.  A February-break staycation is always fun when you get to catch up on city outings like this, and the rink wasn’t even crowded with tourists shockingly!

so I have to quickly post something a little more .. er… pleasant? Less crazy? Less holiday? I don’t know about you but I am holiday-ed out!
So on to skating on the lake – as well as a shot of the kids before skating in Bryant Park off of Times Square. They are getting to be great skaters! (And to explain to relatives who were frightened by last year’s lake post, I promise: we stayed very close to the shore in case the ice breaks!)

The lake in Cornwall was so frozen, we could walk all the way across it. Here we are sitting on docks half way across. Some nice neighbor came along and made a bonfire and the kids made hotdogs and roasted marshmallows. Ezra even found a way to eat them without taking his gloves off.

See what the lake looks like thawed, here.

I went on a date with my little man – to Bryant Park to ice skate. This is the last week that the rink is open. It’s so unseasonably warm today in NYC that it’s hard to imagine that we were doing a cold-weather sport just days ago.
I wish I could say that we made it around the rink several times but this wasn’t the case. We got cold and very sore within the hour (and a little roughed up by the ‘winter break’ crowd). It was fun regardless and it made me realize how much I need more practice! Afterwards Zoe and her dad joined us, and we got to treat ourselves to a pickle from Pickle Me Pete and some cream-chocolate-and-berry-covered waffles at Wafels and Dinges. Yum!

glad I tagged along!
