Remember the Children’s Museum of Art? Hard to believe I was just posting that ‘Zoe is finally big enough to enjoy this place’ and now .. I fear both my kids are starting to transition out of the big room full of flubber, crayons and tiny chairs. BUT they did still love painting and making clay-mation characters in the stop-action claymation room. And we loved the exhibit on book art!

I’m kind of overwhelmed with how quickly the kids are growing.  I don’t know if I’ve ever written that before – but especially now that Ezra approaches age 12 in August: there seems to be so much more responsibility coming around the bend.  He’s already talking about High Schools to apply to, and we are running into his friends moving around on their own on the NYC subway system.  (I am close to letting him get to Time’s Square for camp each day on his own, but just cannot bring myself to it yet.  It’s great to have theater camp there, but it’s also a known fact that all the strangest New Yorkers are walking around that area of town – in case you are ever acting as tourist there and wondering about this..)

When we went to the beach on 4th July, the kids made dinner for us, and then cleaned up the house before we left.  I’m shocked to see that even all the ‘toddlers on the lake’ in Cornwall are suddenly seeming like teenagers !

Even Zoe moves around on her own lately.  We gave her a few dollars for the Cornwall rummage sale and let her roam freely to shop for a few hours with a friend.  She found a very excellent twin version of Louie for just a dollar!

Remember when I started this blog and this little nugget was starting kindergarten at age 5?  Well now he’s headed to middle school and well – in all the summer craziness I forgot to post anything about his August birthday.  But being the now older and cooler kid that he is, he’d be ok with that.  In fact, he’d prefer that because nowadays anything is ’embarrassing’ and social media with his baby pix on it?!  A tween’s nightmare.

BUT I just have to post a little before (at age 5 nervously chewing on his helmet strap) and after – and a lovely quote that our friend at Mount Custard blog put on IG account about her own son (who is very much like Ezra, and in fact they are good friends). img_1253Screen Shot 2017-09-08 at 12.30.08 PMattachments

“Eleven is trying on sunglasses in the H&M men’s department and knowing exactly what you want. Eleven is hugs that also serve to check your height against mine; eleven is catching up. It is capable of laughing at yourself more than you laugh at me, and being more gracious than I am at times. Eleven hungers for joy, for independence, for an iPhone. Eleven is still waiting, but it waits with style.”

I would add that Eleven will still hold my hand while walking, kiss me unabashedly before running into school, and tells me he loves me often – thankfully.  I’ll enjoy it all for now … because I know it won’t last forever.

Here is Zoe at school yesterday – a day before her birthday she wanted to bake and share cupcakes with everyone in her class, and today on the actual big day she and I will go for a little tea party in the city (remember this place? She loves it!) I don’t know how she arrived at the decision that she didn’t really want a party this year… but I will have her all to myself so I’m not going to complain. Happy 5th Birthday my sweet little lady! (and thank you to Zoe’s teacher for the photos!) Bottom photo by Greg Kessler.P1040483
