Wow was I impressed when the kids got home from Sunday school with these awesome menorahs that they made by hand! Dovetailing and all! And of course we had to add a little Italian ‘mozzarella and tomatoes’ with delicious pressed olive oil to the mix, along with E&Z’s dad’s BEST and most crispy latkes.  This amazing recipe is from grandma – and they are a favorite even to our neighbors (who sniff them out while we are cooking). See below – our neighbor Eesha  – whose mom says she ‘didn’t even get her coat off before eating them’.        ; )

We were feeling thankful for health and friends this year.  Our friends rounded us up in the ‘cation house‘ for a feast that included a lot of fun, folks and laughs.  We hope that your holiday was just as cheery!

Ahhh you know we love this place, and don’t get out there as often as we use to.  I’m really hoping to carve more time out this summer to enjoy my favorite routine of  “First lake time, then feast” :

Ours was a quiet start to the year – just being back from the cruise and all, we simply gathered with a small group of friends and rang in the year.  Then headed home for some much needed Zzzzzs.  Let’s hope this upcoming year is as sensible as that night!

Well, before school started we ran off to Connecticut again (and to the Hamptons too but that post is to come). Trying to get as much lake, beach, outdoors as we can before the weather shifts. School has been gently ramping up again – I’m pleasantly surprised by how responsible Ezra is being about his work and Zoe always loves the challenge. Let’s hope it continues. Meanwhile we let the kids choose their ideal meal on this dreamy weekend…

Remember when we ran into this couple getting married at The Met Museum? Well they decided to have a wedding party (years later) this past weekend at the lake. What a pretty location and amazing time we had! Our toes were in the water, lights twinkling over tables on the dock, and I got to tie a lot of nature on to vases (with twine) to decorate – and everyone made a dish to share (including that huge pile of yummy cupcakes.) What an amazing start to summer.

We hung out in Cornwall CT again with friends, and my boys were inspired to jump into the lake on New Year’s Day. I don’t quite understand this tradition, but they like it (and my husband has done the Polar Bear Club at Coney Island before so .. this one is more manageable for the kids it seems).

I’m not really a resolution person, but some things came to mind that I’d like to try to practice this year (no pressure, I’ll just try!)

– remember what great “partners in crime” me and my husband are to each other
– stop cleaning the house so much!
– have more dinner parties cuz hey, they’re fun
– don’t bark at the kids; no sense in making their day stink too..
– have patience
– stop eating and drinking things that just taste ‘eh’. If it’s scrumptious, then pig out and enjoy.
