Not only does this family know how to glamp, but they throw a pretty great summer Luau party too!

The Martens had us greeted with ladies holding fresh flower leis at the front, tiki sculptures around the pool, pineapple infused vodka drinks and great food in the back .. oh and of course, more swinging around in the aerialist’s trapeze swing like during Halloween’s party!

Thanks again for a great time Barbara and Sean! (and thx Barbara for some IG pix!)

How did this year fly by so quickly? I can’t believe it’s nearly June… JUNE!!
Well we tripped out to ‘cation house again for some of the weekend – where we saw a car show and met the neighbor’s dog Kumi. The sun poked its head out for a bit so that the kids could hone their kayak rowing skills, and then we needed to get back to the city for a busy week of E&Z’s dad working days and nights. If the blog goes a little radio silent for a bit, we will be back soon after the crazy work spell is over! Meanwhile some shots from our Instagram feed:

Ha ha ha… I thought all our holiday activity would be over after Hanukkah, but somehow the December festivities just kept going this year. Our neighbor had an open house on Christmas Eve where my husband and I had a ‘mistletoe photo opp’, and then friends in Astoria had a little Secret Santa gift swap for the kids.  Shortly after this, another neighbor asked my husband to pose as Santa at midnight Christmas eve (although he’s not certain the kids involved were convinced, he had a good time trying)! We joke that this was one (of a few) holiday mitzvahs that we did this year.
The weather was so unseasonably warm that crocuses and tulips are cropping up around the neighbors’  lawn holiday decorations.
It’s been a unique December, that’s for sure!

Well shortly after writing about our blustery snowy day, we started to see a bit of a thaw here in NYC. As my family in Boston deals with breaking a snow record with their 108 inches of snow as of Sunday, we are started to see tiny buds of tulips coming up on the front lawn and the alley is wet from all the melting snow. Will it last – or is this just March being tempestuous again? I dread the idea of a rogue snowstorm in April!

Mmmmm we love the smell of warm dirt and turning over new grass. We tend to offer to help out with our friend’s garden because it’s just too fun to dig in all that moist soil. We took apart a vegetable garden that’s been neglected for at least 8 years… and the kids took breaks by getting back on the big swing. It’s beginning to look a lot like growth and warmth season is really here!

Enjoy the weekend.
