We’ve been combing the city for gigs where the band can play, and where Zoe enjoys herself at the same time.  Enter the Queens Kid’s Music Festival!  So much kid talent packed into one event, and Ezra met some great talk show hosts that may very well use his musical talent on their show some day… more to come!

Well here’s what’s been going on here: we had a dusting of snow that lasted for all of a couple of hours and then melted away as rain within the same day.  It was pretty enough to photograph but didn’t linger long enough to turn into snowmen.  My Jewish kids were once again tapped for their acting skills – as Zoe played the Grinch in the school play just as her brother did 3 years ago.  I’m glad the school hung on to that backdrop that I made all those years ago!  This year was spruced up with a sled made from the janitor’s cart – it was Zoe’s favorite scene, riding in that thing.  We got to squeeze in a kid-version mash up of Swan Lake and Nutcracker called ‘Ballerina Swan‘.  Zoe loves posing with the dancers!

This is how Jackson Heights does a ‘Family Day’ – with Mr Met of course, and NDI.

Then Zoe (in the brown dress in front) and Ezra (in blue top and plaid shorts behind the gal in denim) joined in on the fun.. Zoe and Ezra have some pretty great ‘spaghetti arms’ and a fabulous finish! Broadway, here we come! (to see larger, click on the link to vimeo here.)

The whole point to getting to San Francisco was to see cousin Ellie do her thing at the synagogue. My mother in law was so happy that this was the first Bat Mitzvah I had ever seen/been to because – as she noted – it was a beautiful, heart felt service and reception without all the extravagant ‘bells and (expensive and out of touch with Judaism) whistles’ that many current Bar and Bat Mitzvah parties have fallen prey to. Just a lovely location for the party, a bunch of 13 year olds casually dressed and dancing barefoot to a DJ. There were no hired ‘dance inspirers’ or monkeys handing out kippahs or parties at the NBA or Disney store in Times Square. Just family, and some very pretty and tasteful balloon centerpieces – and a lot of limbo, dancing and fun.

Zoe passed out kind of early but I think Ezra was pretty in awe of all the older kids … and their impressive big kid dance moves!

Congrats again Ellie!
