We were back in Rochester to see family – where there were 8 inches of snow waiting for us. The kids loved sledding, eating turkey and lighting candles all in the same weekend! And the song lyrics ‘over the river and through the woods to grandmother’s house we go’ had new meaning to the kids while we pulled them through the woods out back…
(see how warm last Thanksgiving was, here!)

In these last days of warm weather and long mornings (before school starts) I am trying to utilize our newly renovated garden as a fun post-breakfast hang out while we can. Once again there is a lot of hard work involving painting while shirtless – which we will do while the weather permits. I love dragging Playdoh and the Snoopy Snow Cone Machine down here – where clean up is so easy!

Can you believe it’s already been a full year since we’ve last done this? I can’t.
Again it was a scorching hot day but SO worth braving the heat for checking out how to make ‘movie snow’ (in varying colors) and making another round of perfume at the scent lab. (Zoe named her cologne ‘Sprinkles’ and Ezra’s is titled ‘Spicy Love’.)

There were lots of TV science characters abound and Kareem Abdul Jabbar even spoke about the importance of utilizing one’s mind for good. He’s put out a new book about ‘The Lost History of African-American Inventors‘. When asked he replied that he loves writing as much – if not more than basketball. Go Kareem!

Every year this park (located near the last Queens apartment that we lived in) hosts a Kite Flight – where kids are invited to make a kite, and then fly it. This year the kite instruction was a bit complex and in ernest mostly parents were making kites for kids… but it was great to get to Socrates Sculpture Garden filled with kites and see the lush gardens blooming along the edge of the park.

While hanging out with our friend Brad in Connecticut, he allowed us to play with one of his Christmas gifts from his grandma. Do you remember Shrinky Dinks? Not only are they still around, but they come in more variety – including packs of large blank paper where you can create your own drawings and crafts out of them.

Coincidentally Brad’s Aunt Nan came over to the house with her own Shrinky Dink art that she exhibited in a local gallery. Check out her amazing shadow boxes filled with her own created creatures! And after finding this pinterest page of other ideas, I cannot wait to try my hand at making rings.

Today is E and Z’s dad’s birthday. Well really, his birth date is Feb 29 but today will do. Among many of our beautiful things this Friday is the arrival of March, this amazing blueberry cake, and the fact that my husband was born somewhere within the hours between yesterday and today.

We love you birthday boy!

And some other beautiful things:

— Some adorable sushi cupcakes.

It’s been a fun but crazy week and now we’ve got an extra long weekend due to President’s Day. We hope to get to some exciting places… especially since the sun has been shining for 3 days in a row! Meanwhile here are some fun things we found this past week. Enjoy your weekend!

— Fun cold weather project for kids: winter sun catchers.

A friend passed on her Snoopy Sno Cone machine to Ezra and Zoe, and now they are obsessed with making desserts with it. We hope to try some of these snow recipes.

Dog driving cars!

— More insanely gorgeous dresses.

— Yummy vegan valentine’s day recipes.

— I totally love the whole braiding trend.
