Okay in all honesty these photos happened BEFORE the Florida shots… but I just couldn’t bring myself to put them in the mix with all the sun. Brrrrrr don’t they make you shiver? And can you believe the size of those icicles?

We went back to the Natural History Museum to check out the show on Poison – but we didn’t get much further than enjoying the mammal exhibit and canoe on the ceiling again. Feeling a bit sluggish and cagey this start of Feb and I’m not sure why. In some ways it’s almost better to stay out in the cold and enjoy the strangely beautiful brick ruin on the south east corner of Central Park (seen in the photos below.) And of course a trip to FAO Schwartz to play on the ‘Big’ piano always gets the kids going. You’ve got to get there quick though. I hear they are breaking it down and building a new one on the ground floor – so enjoy Tom Hank’s original ‘stomping ground’ before it goes!

so I have to quickly post something a little more .. er… pleasant? Less crazy? Less holiday? I don’t know about you but I am holiday-ed out!
So on to skating on the lake – as well as a shot of the kids before skating in Bryant Park off of Times Square. They are getting to be great skaters! (And to explain to relatives who were frightened by last year’s lake post, I promise: we stayed very close to the shore in case the ice breaks!)

Ugh it was rainy and cold at the beginning of the week – but now it’s sweltering hot and we have grandma in from Rochester to help hold down the fort while E and Z’s parents work (and work and work). So we are hoping to take it easy this weekend. Although another World Science Festival is happening downtown, and E and Z’s dad is photographing the event so – you never can tell what weekend activity will end up on the blog next week. There’s also a concert that Ezra performed in that I cannot WAIT to put up on the blog. What a little song bird he is – who knew? But for now we will say, have a great weekend. And we will try to take it easy while it’s so hot!

Meanwhile we leave you with some shots from our last rainy (and very cold) day in Manhattan. Let’s hope it was our last for a while (and thank you grandma for keeping us occupied in the heat).

Really could it get any colder? We are starting to go a little stir crazy indoors but honestly, it hurts to expose even a nose in this weather.

Some things to warm you:

— The perfect snowman. And some more here.

— If near a fireplace, start up the s’mores.

— Now that Zoe has had a tea party, I’m kinda craving one for big girls.

— And speaking of tea, check out these adorable tea cups.

— Stuck inside? My kids love to make a fort.

— This weekend is Tu Bishvat and we’ll be reading this book. I love the illustrations by Marc Simont.

— Speaking of trees, spare one and upcycle an old wood crib. What a great idea!

— How to do ‘little trees’ (as my kids call them) right… and quick!

— New thing I learned: Frost Flowers?

— Can you be up for this challenge of photographing your kids at least once a week? This underwater shot is the best.

— The prettiest dresses. I want them all!

— Getting excited about Valentine’s Day? I love this Valentine idea for kids.
