Ha ha ha… I thought all our holiday activity would be over after Hanukkah, but somehow the December festivities just kept going this year. Our neighbor had an open house on Christmas Eve where my husband and I had a ‘mistletoe photo opp’, and then friends in Astoria had a little Secret Santa gift swap for the kids.  Shortly after this, another neighbor asked my husband to pose as Santa at midnight Christmas eve (although he’s not certain the kids involved were convinced, he had a good time trying)! We joke that this was one (of a few) holiday mitzvahs that we did this year.
The weather was so unseasonably warm that crocuses and tulips are cropping up around the neighbors’  lawn holiday decorations.
It’s been a unique December, that’s for sure!

Ahh summer we knew you would finally return, hot temperatures and all. But what a difference a year makes. We are still only minutes from Manhattan by train but can catch fireflies after dinner in the alley now. Lots of lemonade stands and random box inventions going on… here are some glimpses via our instagram:

(and remember our friends The Blys? They got another story on their cool garage!)

Mother’s Day was a beautiful balmy day that encouraged us to go to the beach BUT .. our alley tempted my kids to stay.  Neighbors set up a pool, we sat around and chatted, and lounged all day while the kids were happy.  How can a Mother’s Day get better than that?

She wanted to be a ‘purple princess’ and he wanted to be an ‘electric car‘ for Halloween. One can’t help but make these requested costumes from scratch right? I mean, you can’t really find a ‘car costume’ at the store – and Zoe has so many purple tutus and wands and wings and crowns…

It’s amazing how our neighborhood pulled together and created a party in the park to make up for the cancelled Halloween parade (police not available to monitor it now that the hurricane has taken all their attention.) Here in the city we ‘trick or treat’ by going door-to-door to the stores on our main street. Then we went over to a friend’s house in Astoria Queens to hit the houses on side streets. Our friends Brad, Lea and Mia joined us, and the kids had so much fun collecting enough candy to take us through the winter!
