Halloween was full of school activity, as well as a parade at the end of the day. For starters Ezra’s class made hats that indicated their favorite book characters (this year it was Laura Ingalls Wilder for E) and then paraded around the block in costumes AND hats!

We went back to the Goshen Fair again, and this year Zoe was even big enough to stand on the stool at the potter’s station. (A few years ago she was asleep on my back while Ezra watched Reggie the Potter’s booth churn out some great little trinkets.) Lots of prize winning photos, flowers, giant pumpkins and of course.. the rides. We even met a 2 day old calf and Ezra seemed appalled that its mother wasn’t nearby!

Ezra is right now finishing up the book ‘The Farmer Boy’ by Laura Ingalls Wilder (thanks grandma!) and there’s a whole chapter on milk-fed pumpkins and winning ribbons for the best flowers, fruit and veggies. Ezra loved being able to step into a real state/county fair after reading about it.

Well it was cold this weekend, so we made another trip back to the Brooklyn Children’s Museum where lots of MLK activities for kids were going on. It seemed impossible to NOT do something MLK oriented. What an auspicious day – with the re-election and inauguration of President Obama, coincidentally – but with great symbolism, on the same day – we couldn’t help but feel like we are living in good times. Very good and prolific times indeed.

This past weekend we went to The Morgan to see their show on all things Beatrix Potter and their fun family-day. I was shocked by how easily Ezra could read through a Potter book, and his and Zoe’s overall infatuation with the Charles Dickens characters (who acted out A Christmas Carol during a reading, and generally while walking around the library.) We caught a fun puppet show in the downstairs theater (Jeremy Fisher was a hit) and made masks in the craft room. The kids were thrilled to dress like a Beatrix Potter bunny character and thump around with the ‘bunnies’ that were all over the library…

This past weekend was the first time that we really got to drag my dad out of his comfort zone and make him join us while we explored Harvard Square some more. This ‘crowded student’s neighborhood’ (my dad’s words) is a lot of fun – and let’s face it, it feels like a big diverse city which is just exactly what we are use to and what we love to explore! Add some spring blossoms and it was a picture-perfect weekend as well.

No trip to Boston is complete without my dad wanting to bring us to S&S Restaurant in Inman Square. I couldn’t help but take some photos of the shops around Inman Square – mainly Boutique Fabulous at 1309 Cambridge Street and the quirky little bookstore next door (Lorem Ipsum) with the excellent window display. Boutique Fabulous had seriously cute pendant lamps that were vintage and then others that were more affordable paper lanterns. And they have a selection of incredible petticoats made of tulle that made me want to get into a tutu with Zoe for Halloween some year.
