My little muffin chose to do a quiet weekend in the country, playing with a friend’s cats (and Louie) for her long MLK weekend birthday.  She has a new interest in karaoke and singing, so we added a mic to the scene and had a lot of fun.  Today is really officially her birthday, and she is toting 20 gluten free cupcakes to school to celebrate with classmates (and may even convince us to have a 3rd party with ‘the Hazels’ as well).

I am so proud of this fearless, funny, constantly surprising little gal who is growing too fast!  We love you Zoe!

Remember when I started this blog and this little nugget was starting kindergarten at age 5?  Well now he’s headed to middle school and well – in all the summer craziness I forgot to post anything about his August birthday.  But being the now older and cooler kid that he is, he’d be ok with that.  In fact, he’d prefer that because nowadays anything is ’embarrassing’ and social media with his baby pix on it?!  A tween’s nightmare.

BUT I just have to post a little before (at age 5 nervously chewing on his helmet strap) and after – and a lovely quote that our friend at Mount Custard blog put on IG account about her own son (who is very much like Ezra, and in fact they are good friends). img_1253Screen Shot 2017-09-08 at 12.30.08 PMattachments

“Eleven is trying on sunglasses in the H&M men’s department and knowing exactly what you want. Eleven is hugs that also serve to check your height against mine; eleven is catching up. It is capable of laughing at yourself more than you laugh at me, and being more gracious than I am at times. Eleven hungers for joy, for independence, for an iPhone. Eleven is still waiting, but it waits with style.”

I would add that Eleven will still hold my hand while walking, kiss me unabashedly before running into school, and tells me he loves me often – thankfully.  I’ll enjoy it all for now … because I know it won’t last forever.

Little man is 9 today! Where the heck did all that time go? I still remember the way his fuzzy little head smelled like a freshly bathed puppy, and how (as seen in the bottom photo) he could stare at me for hours. One taste of that mamma love and I was hooked for life!

We got him a drum set for his birthday – so big-boyhood is officially underway!
Happy birthday Ezra … we love you to bits.

We went back to Alice’s Teacup where cupcakes were enjoyed, tea was gulped down and fairy dust was sprinkled on these little ladies… then Zoe came home to her favorite pile of pink things acquired during her birthday!

Aside from loving books, Transformers and cars .. he now loves putting his speed boat in the lake at Central Park. He did some boat racing with grandma and grandpa a couple of birthdays ago, remember? The boy loves his boats. (Thank you Bubby for the gift!)

I made a lemon cake, with lemon icing and spelled his name out in blueberries (of course he ate only the fruit and left the cake to his sweet-obsessed sister). He got a new Bruder truck and he and his sister surprised ME – by putting tiny party hats on their ‘friends’ in the bedroom:

new truck, and if you'll notice he lost a bottom tooth on the eve of his birthday! Can you see the gap?

Another princess party; why do these fascinate me? Aside from the fact that I had my son first (and got thoroughly involved in his interests like ‘Thomas the Tank Engine’ and cars) … and now all this ‘girl stuff’ feels NEW to me, perhaps? As if I’m adjusting to a whole new set of criteria to be aware of?

Or maybe I’m amazed at how Zoe and her girlfriends have an innate ability to coordinate princess outfits already?

I guess I’ve never really been a very ‘girlie’ girl growing up (or maybe my mom would disagree?) If I was, it didn’t really ever carry over to my parties and I don’t know that I ever enjoyed dressing like a princess. But Zoe seems to tolerate itchy fabrics and tripping on miles of tule better than I do.

I couldn’t help but but feel like an anthropologist watching the party-goers live in a princess-world for hours. But all my analysis aside, this party was just too cute NOT to share. With a ‘pin the kiss on the frog’ game, castle, crown-making and all (and those Zulily Fairy cupcakes and bags, amazing!)
