Can you believe it’s already been a full year?  I can’t.

We are always excited to get out to see Carl and Tricia and now… new Angelo.  His first birthday was amazing; with hours of food and fun in the pool.  I think Angelo enjoyed smashing his cake more than anything else going on … happy birthday delicious little man!

Ezra and his dad were invited to GMA for a father’s day grill off … which was postponed to the last day in June.  Their challenge was to create a side dish to compliment the main dish  (which was Tony Roma ribs).  They made Ezra’s great grandmother’s potato salad with some minor changes like mustard mixed in with mayo, home grown dill and keeping the skins on the red potatoes.  We won a grill and a year’s supply of ribs!  And best of all they got to meet the GMA crew:

We’ve been meaning to do this for a long time now but finally both Ezra and Zoe are old enough to sit still and appreciate a live show. Every Sunday from 2-3 pm Jazz Standard (under Blue Smoke restaurant) has a kid’s live jazz show – starring other kid jazz performers! Inspiring to watch – especially for kids who are also learning to play an instrument. And of course Ezra had the sample the city’s best beef ribs, which are on the kid menu!

My husband and I like to celebrate a little earlier (or later) than Valentine’s Day, in order avoid all the chaos of the actual holiday (battling for reservations and dealing with over-decorated restaurants with mediocre ‘prix fix’ menus is not for us). This year we discovered Butcher Bar in Astoria – where even my mostly vege-pescatarian husband was tempted by great smoked meat. The Beef Candy sandwich was amazing – I’m already craving another.
Enjoy your weekend and happy Valentine’s Day!

We spent the 4th of July with friends in Seaford Long Island. Zoe was excited to wear her patriotic dress and Ezra was happy to get out of the city heat.
The kids loved filling a trap with bread and catching killies which we then put back into the water. We even had a crab trap to try – and caught a crab although he very quickly walked sideways right out of the trap and to the edge of the pier, then jumped into the water as well!

Zoe finds a friend in an old Victorian doll:
