We went back to the Goshen Fair again, and this year Zoe was even big enough to stand on the stool at the potter’s station. (A few years ago she was asleep on my back while Ezra watched Reggie the Potter’s booth churn out some great little trinkets.) Lots of prize winning photos, flowers, giant pumpkins and of course.. the rides. We even met a 2 day old calf and Ezra seemed appalled that its mother wasn’t nearby!

Ezra is right now finishing up the book ‘The Farmer Boy’ by Laura Ingalls Wilder (thanks grandma!) and there’s a whole chapter on milk-fed pumpkins and winning ribbons for the best flowers, fruit and veggies. Ezra loved being able to step into a real state/county fair after reading about it.

Remember this from last summer? This year the kids are tall enough to try more rides.
Here are some Coney Island pictures to enjoy – before the summer is over (how DID it go by so fast?!):

We love summers for outings to Governor’s Island!

From July 13 through September 29 (weekends 10am–6:30pm), Governors Island hosts Fete Paradiso – a festival showcasing antique carousels from the late-19th and early-20th centuries. If you’re up for a workout, seek out the bicycle carousel. Built in the late 1800s, it’s one of only two in existence and you’ll work up a sweat (along with the other riders) getting it moving!

Have a great weekend.

After going to the bumper cars, we had to check out the new and improved boardwalk of amusement rides – now called Luna Park. I was pleasantly surprised by how new and clean and safe all the equipment seemed. Unfortunately I think Ezra inherited my fear of all things that spin too fast or go too high into the air (and Zoe is too young to want to ride most of it) so we didn’t do much riding. BUT it was fun to check it all out and watch E&Z’s DAD try on the trickier rides on his own.
Of course no trip to Coney Island is complete without a stop at Totonno’s Pizza on Neptune Ave. Totonno’s is the oldest continuously operating pizzeria in the U.S. run by the same family AND was supposedly a favorite hang for the Ramones. When I was a single gal I always loved going here for a pie after photographing the Mermaid Parade – so it was great to finally get to share Totonno’s with my kids.
