Archive for July, 2014

and of course that means a trip to Strong Museum! Remember this amazing place? When the weather gets fussy, it’s a great place for the kids to spend HOURS playing (photos courtesy of Karen Kessler!). Hey isn’t that a scene from Sesame Street where Zoe is standing? I thought that was here in Queens!:

This July has been a lot of time away from my babies… but I think they are enjoying the independence. I cannot wait to collect them this weekend and hear all about their adventures. Meanwhile grandma and grandpa have sent some shots of their week that I will soon have uploaded to share. By this shot I’m getting the impression that Zoe got some new barrettes from her cousin Tali (and can’t just wear one!):

Lots of excitement outside our apartment building door this past weekend. It’s the end of Eid – we’ve posted about this before. There are tables set out where women are putting henna patterns on hands, and iftar boxes are being sold. We are not moving far, but I will miss being in the thick of this. Often I feel transported to another place, for sure. Humans Of New York caught some shots of the festivities going on in Flushing Queens – gotta love New York City for all this cultural exposure. I had never heard of this holiday before moving here. Eid Mubarak!

I had my kiddos back with me for only a week – but I love when we can slowly and calmly take the subway into the city, and if the park is quiet we have the best laid back experience of the city. Ezra loves watching the boats (and now wants a remote controlled boat for his birthday!) Zoe has taken to sketching while in her stroller, and of course we always love finding strange new (fuzzy) nature in Central Park. And we can’t leave this area of the park without crawling all over Alice and her Wonderland folks first.

Okay truth be told I’ve been following Jeff Koons since the early 90s and I was very ‘eh’ about his work. But who could resist taking kids to see all these enlarged inflatable structures on a Saturday afternoon? I thought everyone else would be at the beach but as it turned out, the museum was bustling. When Koons was married to an Italian porn star they made a couple pieces that included he and she in the photos – so we were warned at the door that the 3rd floor may be a little ‘racy’. But the kids basically ignored naked body parts for the much more intriguing giant blob of Playdoh (inspired by Koon’s son, made of aluminum and it took 20 years to build!) The room of illuminated vacuums was oddly soothing, and I still cannot figure out how the stacked white chairs with inflatable pool toys could’ve been produced… it’s baffling. I love how all the tour guides wore inflatable bunnies on their heads.
I’m now sold on Koons’ work – who knew I’d become a fan 20 years into following him?

(BY THE WAY this is post #600 for me… can you believe I’ve had this much to say? Thanks for following!)

After all this fun, I hope they recorded it well enough to remember it all. If not, they can always come to this blog for a reminder!
