Hmmmm Ezra seems to need his privacy more and more often these days. Can you see the cryptic message he spelled out in crayons, bandaids and toy cars on his bedroom floor?

I use to love to photograph this parade back before I was married or had kids. I had nearly forgotten about it – and then somehow Zoe got wind of it and (being recently obsessed with mermaids) just had to partake in the mermaid fun. It was hot and super crowded, but since the kids are so tiny – they could get to the front of the crowd and see the costumes. Ezra – being the good natured brother that he is – even got dressed up as King Neptune for Zoe’s enjoyment. In the end I think Mayor DeBlasio even approached Ezra and gave him a gold coin while dressed like a pirate. The crowds were so thick that people started climbing the scaffolding on the sidewalks – but in the end it was worth it. (By the way – Zoe painted her shells herself!)

On Zoe’s last day of school she had to wear all yellow for her performance of the ‘Little Duck’ song. She practiced this religiously for weeks and even added her own musical pauses in-between the lyrics (which always cracked me up). In the end she and her friends put on a great show … you can see by the sea of parents with cameras that this was well documented ! Now I just have to get the video version out of Z’s dad’s iPhone and post it for you all to see..

I am posting tonight and tomorrow morning in-between a flurry of graduations this week. Ezra has a graduation ceremony and show on Friday, and Zoe’s was earlier this week. When did this girl get so big? With her own birthday and graduation parties to go to .. I barely recognize this social little bunny –

I guess we know a lot of cute folks whose birthdays are happening this month … just some more gratuitous pix of birthday fun. I love this ‘photo booth wall’ and may have to copy this idea for E’s bday in August:

Who knew this great new flea market/street fair was happening on weekends in our old Queens neighborhood (near Kaufman Astoria Studios) ? GREAT food and even a bicycle powered slush making machine – the kids were psyched. Zoe loves pink lady sushi – with mango and shrimp. YUM! So much to see, buy and eat…

That is the question … posed in the cover story of the Personal Section of the Wall Street Journal today. My husband and kids sat for a whacky and fun photo session for the story (photo by ‘uncle Jeffie’ Jeff Coffin, sax player for the Dave Matthews Band and his own Mu’tet.) I am quoted as saying I find it counter-intuitive to stay in the room — when my kids are screaming (help! and stop! are usually the screams..) but the truth is I KNOW that on some level it must be good for them. I remember wrestling with my brothers and dad when I was younger and – at the very least – it eventually tired us out. What are your thoughts?

We were back here again – Z and E’s dad was the staff photographer for the event but regardless, this street fair had my kids involved from 10 a.m. all the way up to the close at 6 pm. The themes were space, robots and weather.. and we loved learning about all three!
