In these last days of warm weather and long mornings (before school starts) I am trying to utilize our newly renovated garden as a fun post-breakfast hang out while we can. Once again there is a lot of hard work involving painting while shirtless – which we will do while the weather permits. I love dragging Playdoh and the Snoopy Snow Cone Machine down here – where clean up is so easy!

Remember this from last summer? This year the kids are tall enough to try more rides.
Here are some Coney Island pictures to enjoy – before the summer is over (how DID it go by so fast?!):

We LOVE Jacob Riis and Robert Moses beaches but were itching to try something new. Friends told us about Sunken Meadow State Park and we had to check it out. It is a bit rockier and has less waves – but it was great to feel like we were on a new adventure for the day. We do love how many great programs they seem to have during the summer and the park and recreation people who came out to explain the sealife to everyone!

I have been pining for salt water beaches lately and – while Sunken Meadow was fun – I’m longing for the sound of crashing waves before summer ends. My husband promises me he’ll play waves via his iphone next time we go to the lake. I have to admit, it seems like a great idea!

look how rocky it is! (ok basically I will use any excuse to shoot Zoe's cute feet)

Ezra indulged me on his birthday and let us return to this pretty place again – with its gorgeous view of the Hudson and glass house full of succulents. Grandma and grandpa were in town and met us there, so we got to show them our favorite garden in/near the city (it’s in the Bronx). Making butterfly hats in the newly renovated Wave Hill House was just the icing on the cake.

We can’t help but be a little envious of friends who live in the city AND have a back yard (a rare thing in these parts.) Thankfully they invite us over to enjoy some of the more creative things they do with that blank wall out back. When they pulled out the projector and fussed with the focus until – voila! – we got to enjoy some Bugs Bunny (AND ‘Seas of Life’ from Planet Earth) viewing at dusk:

I made a lemon cake, with lemon icing and spelled his name out in blueberries (of course he ate only the fruit and left the cake to his sweet-obsessed sister). He got a new Bruder truck and he and his sister surprised ME – by putting tiny party hats on their ‘friends’ in the bedroom:

new truck, and if you'll notice he lost a bottom tooth on the eve of his birthday! Can you see the gap?

Yesterday was little man’s birthday. I can’t believe he’s 7 already! Because we don’t often eat processed food in our house, a pile of doughnuts with candles on it served nicely as an extra rare treat and ‘cake’. Of course I gush with pride when he prefers his favorite watermelon on a stick (seeing as he loves fruit more than sweets.) How did I NOT get that “healthy food preference” gene? I hope Ezra never loses it.
Yeah, I know the watermelon already has a rind but the stick just makes it more fun to eat.

Happy birthday E – how are you growing so fast? (And I guess this means our little blog is almost 2 years old now too!)
