This is really why I love New York City. In all the years that I’ve lived here I’ve always loved when I stumble across something that is random and magical. Like seeing enormous flowing drapes billowing within a huge room of the armory on the Upper East Side. This was the scene – our first day back to the city, we head uptown to see The Met and on the way I peer into the Park Avenue Armory where inside – for lack of better description – it looks like a music video or TV commercial might be being filmed. It turned out it was Ann Hamilton’s ‘The Event Of a Thread’ show – which asked viewers to power the billowing fabric by jumping on a swing and powering the chains that held it all together at the ceiling. Needless to say – kids love swings, and adults love to try their hand at controlling the movement of the piece. Because of the size of the piece and space, it felt uncrowded (even if one had to fight for a swing) and relaxing to watch the slow ‘drifting’ movement of the swings and fabric.

I love this entry. Looks great. The armory was also beautifully decorated for the holidays from the Park Avenue side.
