Bubby already sent us some crafts for Chanukah, giving us something to do in Rochester in the snow. I can’t believe it’s only a couple weeks away!

Grandma took us all to see The Nutcracker while we were in the Rochester area during our long Thanksgiving weekend. We love the Chihuly glass chandelier in the lobby, and we all loved the danseur who performed the Russian dance. The Rochester City Ballet did an excellent job and I’m amazed our kids lasted through the performance (even Zoe!) without stirring too much, considering cousins Jake and Tali were there with us – adding to the fun.

We ducked away to Grandma and Grandpa’s house for a bit. A little snow, a little fireplace, grandparents and cousins… we have more adventures to share soon.

While at the Museum of Natural History, we checked out the Hall of Gems. There’s also a Hall of Meteorites and a Hall of Minerals in this same area of the museum. I think the kids love this zone the most because they can actually touch some of the exhibit. Of course Ezra enjoys it because he got very into geodes this summer during our trip to Maine, and Zoe loves any gem that is pink or purple!

Just a couple days before Sandy hit, we were able to get back to the American Museum of Natural History for the reopening of the Theodore Roosevelt Memorial and the Hall of North American Mammals. We were greeted by a museum docent who was sporting a Theodore mustache and hat, and she offered us the same. Zoe napped under her mustache, and Ezra put his on for one photo opp — and then was a bit dubious about whether or not he was really shaking the real Mr. Roosevelt’s hand (see all that skepticism in the photo below?) Since TR was such a huge fan of birds there was a lot of information on birds of prey, and once Zoe woke from her nap she got to make her own paper bird of prey.
(We never did get to photograph the TR cut-out outdoors, but some of the fun results are in: click here)

A little reprieve to the country – lots of board game-playing, finding strange tiny mushrooms on the rocks outside, hiking until we all got too cold, and napping somewhere cozy after all is said and done. Winter on its way:

One of my favorite blogs is written by an amazing graphic designer/photographer who found a great way to use her talents to help in post-Sandy relief. Check out her calendar on this website or Etsy.
If you buy it in the month of November, you get a holiday gift with a cause! (Only 15 days left in November now… where is this month going already?!)
